Saint-Louis
The Müntzthal glassworks was created in 1586. It became “Verrerie Royale de Saint-Louis” in 1767 by letters patent of King Louis XV.
In 1781, the previous director of the glassworks, M. de Beaufort, perceived the secret of the crystal formula. So far, only the English held the manufacturing method.
From 1829, the crystal factory devoted itself solely to working with crystal and produced the first table services, notably the Trianon model in 1834.
In the years 1830-1840 the productions diversified with the manufacture of colored crystal, chandeliers, paperweight, molded and pressed crystal.
The crystal factory released its best-known model, the Tommy model, in 1928 which is still produced today.
Like other prestigious crystal houses, Saint-Louis collaborates with talented designers to innovate and introduce more contemporary creations into their collections.
Saint-Louis remains the oldest crystal factory in France.
